Assistant Coaches
As part of ensuring our coaches meet the required standards set out by Hockey Canada, the OHF, and the GTHL, the following must be obtained and completed and submitted to the CVHA office prior to the start of the season.  Previously trained coaches may already have many of these requirements.  The links to these will be found under the COACHING IN HL tab.



Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSC/VSS)
Where: 
Ordered online through the York Region Police's website. Please follow the link in the COACHING IN HL tab on our website.
Valid For:  The CVHA requires a new VSS to be done every two (2) years.
Comments: This is a specific screen done by the police in which the original copy (no scans or pictures) must be supplied to the CVHA Office.  You must also print out and sign and bring with you the VSS Letter 2023-2024 when picking up your VSS.  Please follow the link in the tab to apply online with the York Region Police.  If you live outside of York Region, please contact the CVHA office so they can guide you to what you must do.


Respect in Sport (Speak Out) Certificate
Where:  Offered online, please follow the link in the COACHING IN HL tab on our website.
Valid For:  This is different than the Respect in Sport course taken as a parent.  Once taken, this currently does not expire.
Comment:  Your registration and completion of the the Respect in Sport (RIS) program will automatically update to your record in the Hockey Canada Registry.


Gender Identity Training (GIT) for Team Officials
Where: This is offered by the OHF and is an online course, please follow the link in the COACHING IN HL tab on our website.
Valid For:  Once taken, this currently does not expire.
Comment:  The OHF provides online training for team officials to support inclusive hockey in Ontario and understanding discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression.  Your registration and completion of the the Respect in Sport (RIS) program will automatically update to your record in the Hockey Canada Registry. 
 

Rowan's Law Waiver
Where:  Waivers are done online through registration as a coach in the Hockey Canada registration portal.
Valid For:  This is required to be done every year during registration as a team official in the Hockey Canada registration portal.
Comment:  Rowan's Law was passed by the Government of Ontario, and establishes a standard of practice for concussion prevention, identification, and management.


House League Coaching Expectation Form
Where: This is done online through registration as a coach in the Hockey Canada registration portal.
Valid For:  This is required to be done every year during registration as a team official in the Hockey Canada registration portal.
Comment:  This is the GTHL policy (GTHL Rule 7.15) concerning registering as a team official with a team or club.
