What is Offside in Hockey?

A team is offside when any player of the attacking (offensive) team crosses the blue line before the puck crosses the blue line!

For a player to be offside, both skates need to be inside the offensive zone (across the blue line).  If one skate is behind or on the blue line , you are not offside!  Your stick makes no difference!

What is DELAYED Offside in Hockey?

Delayed offside is when an offensive player has entered the offensive zone BEFORE the puck, and then the puck enters the zone without the attacking team having possession.  The official will then put their arm up and signal OFFSIDE.

To end a delayed offside, all attacking players must cross back over the blue line into the neutral zone without touching the puck. If an attacking player touches the puck during a delayed offside, the official will blow the play down because it is OFFSIDE.
