Markham and Vaughan Hockey Clubs Respond to GTHL Legal Claim
January 15, 2026
Markham/Vaughan, ON
The Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) has filed a legal claim against the Markham Majors, Markham Islanders, Vaughan Rangers, and Vaughan Panthers hockey clubs (the Clubs), alleging, amongst other things, fraud and misrepresenting.
All allegations are categorically and strongly denied. This dispute has been ongoing for far too long. Throughout that time, the clubs have repeatedly made good-faith efforts to cooperatively resolve the matter with the GTHL. Unfortunately, the GTHL has allowed the issue to remain unresolved, resulting in unnecessary expense for all parties involved.
The GTHL's claim alleges that the Clubs profited improperly from game ice fees. This is false. The fees in question represents a modest administrative charge solely intended to offset operational and administrative costs incurred by the Clubs. This is no different than administrative fees that the GTHL, itself, charges and recovers from the Clubs to regulate aspects of the league. The amounts also cited in the claim are exaggerated, inaccurate, and do not reflect the true nature or purpose of the fee.
The Clubs welcome the opportunity for this matter to be adjudicated in a transparent and independent court of law. This approach stands in contrast to attempting to resolve the dispute through the GTHL's internal processes, which have proven to be lengthy, costly, and biased.
The Clubs strongly deny the allegations and remain united in their position. At all times, the Clubs have acted, and continue to act, in the best interest of their players, the families, and the integrity of the game.
Further comment will be made through legal representatives as the matter proceeds.
