The City of Vaughan Hockey Association (CVHA) is a not-for-profit, minor hockey association that operates in the boundaries of the City of Vaughan, as a member of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), North York Hockey League (NYHL), Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), and Hockey Canada.
We offer 4 main categories of co-ed hockey to the community:
1. U5 - INSTRUCTIONAL HOCKEY PROGRAM
Our U5 program is designed to introduce our 4 year old (U5) players to the game of hockey! This is done through hockey skills and drills, with some game play. Our instructors have years of experience with beginners and create a fun learning environment for them. Participants should be able to stand on skates and be able to move around without assistance. This is a hockey skills program, not a Learn To Skate program. The program runs on weekends and each session is 50 minutes in length. All skaters must wear full equipment.
Our U5 program also includes special events, team uniform (jerseys and socks), team & individual photos, trophies & awards and an end of season banquet to celebrate the season all together!
2. HOUSE LEAGUE - RECREATIONAL HOCKEY PROGRAM
Our House League is our largest program and offers a fun and exciting hockey recreational development program for those 5-17 years of age (U6-U18). This is a recreational stream where everyone is welcome to learn and enjoy the game of hockey. House League does not have tryouts, and players are assigned to teams based on their age. Players receive an equal amount of ice time regardless of their ability. Practices and games occur only on the weekend, and in City arenas located in Vaughan, making it easier for families to fit it into their busy schedules. Our House League program includes practices, games, special events, team uniform (jerseys and socks), team & individual photos, trophies & awards and an end of season banquet to celebrate the season all together!
3. SELECT - DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM
This is a competitive developmental program that requires players to try-out for the respective team, and is offered to those 6-20 years of age (U7-U21). Our Select teams play in the NYHL Select League as Vaughan Rangers. Programming usually has a minimum of 16 regular season games plus playoffs and occurs during the week and weekends at various times. Teams are responsible for determining their practice plan and may consist of 1 or 2 practices a week and exhibition games. Our Select teams also enter multiple tournaments throughout the year including local tournaments and travel tournaments around Ontario, other Provinces, and even in the U.S.A.
4. REP (REPRESENTATIVE) - A/AA DEVELOPMENTAL HOCKEY PROGRAMMING
This is a developmental competitive program that requires players to try-out for the respective team in order to represent the Vaughan Rangers at two skill levels that are above Select - A and AA - and is offered to those 9-17 years of age (U10-U18). This requires a much stronger commitment. Our A/AA teams play in the in GTHL, the largest minor hockey league in the world, based in the GTA and Vaughan! Programming usually has a minimum of 36 games plus potential playoffs, and occurs during the week and weekends at various times. Teams are responsible for determining their practice plan and usually consist of 2 practices a week, exhibition games, and other specialty training, like dryland workouts. Our A and AA Rep teams also enter multiple tournaments
throughout the year including local tournaments and travel tournaments around Ontario, other Provinces, and even in the U.S.A.
