What an amazing weekend for minor hockey in Vaughan!!! Our Hockey Day in Vaughan was a huge success showcasing our program from house league to select and rep! And what better way to end the weekend off with a record setting amount of teams in the Parade of Champions to kick off the Sunday night hockey broadcast nationwide! I think it is safe to say if they didn't know how amazing Vaughan hockey was before, they certainly do now!!
The weekend started with our annual Hockey Day in Vaughan where we showcase our program from house league to Select, A and AA. Celebrating the fun and success that these players are having is always a great way to kick off the second part of the season and get everyone even more excited for the hockey to come! This year we even surprised some of our CVHA and Vaughan Rangers with the Stanley Cup! Special thanks to ScotiaBank Hockey, Rogers Hometown Hockey and the Hockey Hall of Fame for giving those kids (and coaches!) a memory of a lifetime!
Saturday night Rogers Hometown Hockey and Tara Slone dropped by our annual banner ceremony where we celebrate all of our championship teams from the previous year and unveil their banners! Having a record setting year and taking 9 of 18 GTHL championships was a proud moment for the entire Vaughan Rangers family and even better that we got to share that nationally!
On Sunday, Rogers Hometown Hockey took over and put on a great event down at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre. Players, coaches, family and friends came out and were able to play ball hockey, skills competitions, food trucks, music, and even get autographs from Toronto Maple Leaf alumni Darcy Tucker, Shayne Corson and Curtis Joseph!
We all know that hockey in Vaughan is amazing, but we showed that to the country when we broke the record for most teams in the Parade of Champions! The parade has minor hockey teams and others marching proudly in support of their association to show everyone how great Vaughan is! What a way to kick off the national NHL broadcast as Ron MacLean and Tara Slone showcased our players, coaches, family and friends to everyone and really helped solidify Vaughan as the premier place to play!
The CVHA wants to thank all of our players, coaches and hockey family for the tremendous support and effort you have put in all year, but also to make Hockey Day in Vaughan and Rogers Hometown Hockey such a success. Our volunteers are some of the best around, and the reason why our players are so fortunate to have these great experiences, so thank you to everyone for all that you do and for making memories that will last a lifetime!
