CVHA Start of Season Newsletter
Players, Parents and Volunteers,
On behalf of our City of Vaughan Association Executive, I would like to officially welcome all Learn to Play, House League and Vaughan Ranger participants to our 2023/24 hockey campaign.
It has been a very challenging but rewarding past month. Younger age Ranger team tryouts, House League assessments, successful Ranger Early Bird AA tournament plus the preparation and commencement of this past weeks House League, NYHL and GTHL league play.
We are extremely pleased at the increase in participation numbers this season. May be a small percentage, but significant nonetheless. With the increase in participation and teams, comes the demand for coaches and volunteers. We are extremely fortunate to have a terrific volunteer base within our House League and Ranger programs, but are also pleased with the interest generated and commitment from new coaches and volunteers …. Welcome and Thank you !!
The success of our program from the executive members to our Learn to Play instructors are the fact that they are volunteers. I can not express enough, how grateful we are to have a wonderful range of skilled and talented individuals looking to make a difference. The selfless contributions and efforts in creating memorable moments for the children within the program is truly appreciated. On behalf of every child within our Learn to Play, House League and Ranger programs ….. Trainers, Managers, Coaches, Convenors, Delegates and Executive Board Members ….. Thank You !!
Last year we were fortunate to have an executive board member and Vice President of our House League Program, Mr. Laurie Morris, whom was determined to get an association mentorship program off the ground, and that he did. He was able to generate an interest of 29 mentors between the ages of 15-18yrs of age, primarily from our Ranger program. These individuals would volunteer their time (community volunteer hours) assisting with the house league on-ice practices within our younger age divisions. Last years successful campaign has resulted in 50 mentors enrolling in this years program, "which is remarkable", providing support to the coaches in demonstrating the skills for the players. For the mentors within their U18 year, they qualify and can apply for the Maurizio Bevilaqua Scholarship for which was also introduced and presented last season for the first time. On behalf of our house league participants and coaches, Mr. Morris and our many Mentors …… Thank You !!
Our CVHA program will be looking to introduce a Skills Development Session offered once a week commencing mid November. This program will be geared for the younger house league particpants looking to hone their skills to better compete within the house league program and or potential interest in one day playing at the select level. Please stay tuned for further information and dates of the program.
