What is an Assessment/Balancing Skate?
An assessment skate is a tool used to assist Convenors in balancing of teams.  Players skills are individually assessed and then placed onto a team accordingly.  It s important that all players show up to their assessment skates to assist in this process.

Why does the CVHA house league do assessment skates/team balancing?
The goal of the CVHA is to achieve parity among all the teams in house league divisions. To ensure equally competitive teams, the CVHA will assign or move players as required to build balanced divisions. The CVHA reserves the right to move players during the season, as necessary, until this balance is achieved.

Being a Goalie in House League.
Please see the section GOALIES IN HOUSE LEAGUE for more detailed information.
In divisions where there are more teams than goalies, the CVHA reserves the right to not assign goalies to a permanent team, but rather rotate them between teams in the division. We have implemented this strategy based on feedback from our convenors, coaches and parents.

Please note, we have a new fee structure for Senior Goalies in the PEEWEE division and higher.

The CVHA provides use of free goalie equipment to those who sign up as goalies from the MINOR ATOM to the BANTAM age levels.  Having available goalie equipment allows for those who may want to try playing but aren't ready to invest in a full set of gear without knowing if they want to continue.  It helps in reducing the cost to those that play in net by providing the specialized equipment (Chest protector, catching glove, blocker, leg pads and throat protection and a hockey bag for it all).

We encourage those that want to be goalies to make sure to register as a goalie, and you will be notified by the league and coaches of when equipment will be available for pick-up before the season starts.

Do the Mini Mites/Mites have assessment skates?

No, the Mini Mites and Mites do not have assessment skates, however, team balancing may take place for the Mites.

Can I request that my child play with his friend for car-pooling purposes?
You may speak to your Convenor at the assessment skates to make this request. However, the CVHA does not guarantee any requests, and first and foremost the balancing of teams takes precedence.

When do teams play and practice?

Most of the divisions practice on Saturday with games being held on Sunday.

What arenas does the CVHA house league play in?

The mandate put forth by the City of Vaughan is that the CVHA use all the hockey arenas in Vaughan.  The arenas are as follows:

Al Palladini Community Centre

Garnet Community Centre

Maple Community Centre

Rosemount Community Centre

The Sports Village

Woodbridge Memorial Arena

Should I contact the CVHA office for information regarding my sons/daughters team, division, or schedule?
Unfortunately at the start of the season the CVHA Office will not have access to team, division or arena schedules. These will be communicated to you in September by the Coaches and Convenors in each division. During the season all team schedules will be posted online and should be the resource used, as this is the most up to date information.
